Cobham 7 - 0 CB Hounslow

Cobham News Editor17 Dec 2018 - 22:49

The Hammers up to 6th with a rout as the heavens opened

Despite missing top scorer Gary Abisogun, Harry Murphy, Vice-Captain James King who was off enjoying the birth of his son (congratulations Kingy and Sophie!) and Chris Thurgood who had found his goal scoring touch in recent weeks, Cobham were still able to name and impressive starting XI with three 16 year olds from the u23’s on the bench.
In wet conditions, it took 8 minutes for Sam Hurrell to skate down the wing before his centre was met by a towering leap from Ayran Kugathas who directed his header downwards and last the visiting keeper. Enjoying plenty of possession, Cobham were able to dictate the tempo and had to wait until the half hour mark before a nice combination between Davis, West and Kugathas released Hurrell to send the keeper the wrong way and net at the near post. Nathan West, on his 100th competitive appearance for the club kept up his great run of goal scoring form with a fine finish just before half time to make it 3-0.
After the break, Chris Davis finally got in on the act for his tenth of the campaign as he slotted cools past the onrushing keeper. He had a chance to double his tally moments later in identical circumstances but this time his shot just grazed the outside of the post.
Nathan West then grabbed his second with a drilled effort from outside the box.
Enter the teenagers, Max Cornish and Joey Brian were brought in the fray with 25 minutes remaining, though it was agony for Cornish as his first touch was met with a strong tackle leaving the young striker who is in rich form for the u23’s unable to continue and leaving the Hammers with ten men for the last quarter of the game. Joey Brian however, fared much better, and within moments of coming on raced past the last defender before rounding the keeper to score on his league debut for the club. On the 80th minute, Brian was at it again, this time riding a tackle and staying on his feet before once again rounding the keeper and slotting home to make it a day to remember.
