The new pitch is taking shape!

The new pitch is taking shape!

Cobham News Editor15 Apr 2023 - 19:30

Work has very visibly begun on the new artificial pitch.....

Cobham Football Clubs new artificial pitch is coming along very nicely after a few weeks of some very eye catching groundworks which has already transformed the look of the club.

The state of the art pitch, complete with new LED floodlights, pitch perimeter fencing, hard standing all the way around and some soft aesthetic upgrades will create an excellent facility which is already in high demand from the local community.

The development, costing around £1.1million is the most significant stage of a development plan that will in time see a new clubhouse and changing rooms to match the new pitch and service the club.

The current building is undergoing a refurb and has had a complete new electric fit out, plumbing and exciting additions to the bar and kitchen.

The first job was cutting down the old conifers which had become diseased and grown out of control, they were a bit of a hallmark of the ground however and it will take some getting used to in order for it not to seem odd that they are no longer there. Our replanting scheme and the holly hedge to be installed on the sound proof fence will make the area look much tidier and give the wildlife somewhere new to enjoy. Unbelievably it took less than 10 hours to remove the trees and stumps and take them away which then enabled the contractors to get straight on to the groundworks. They were so quick that the Chairman was still digging up his memento for the garden when they broke ground next to him. The ground has become known as one of the finest pitches at the level in recent years so it is with some sadness it departs, however the usage for the community that the new pitch will bring and the sustainability of the club softens the blow.

If they carry on at the pace they have begun, the pitch will be complete in a week (joking of course). A completion date mid Summer will be confirmed and of course a grand opening in due course.
